It's Not Wright That's So Wrong
Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 10:10:05 PM PDT
Not that Wright is right; just that Hoyer is so wrong. Throw in Pelosi, too – and Murtha and Emanuel.
The House leadership plans to pass another 170-billion dollar Iraq war supplemental before Memorial Day, before more veterans blow their brains out or return with post traumatic stress disorder to shoot their wives in the shopping mall.
Benchmarks? Timelines? What are those?
Sen. Obama, CA Progressives Thank You
Thu Apr 10, 2008 at 10:03:37 PM PDT
Dear Senator Obama:
Thank you for graciously reinstating and welcoming all California delegate hopefuls, including me, Marcy Winograd, and many others who helped build the Progressive Caucus in the California Democratic Party.
Tonight, we are thrilled you embrace our support.
Grassroots anti-war activists and young Obama campaigners will have their vote on Sunday, when caucuses in California congressional districts decide who will proudly represent you at the National Democratic Party convention in August.
Will Obama Campaign Purge PA Progressives, Too?
Thu Apr 10, 2008 at 06:39:01 AM PDT
By dusk on Wednesday, the California Obama campaign had purged almost all
progressive anti-war activists from its delegate candidate lists. Names of candidates, people who had filed to run to represent Obama at the August Democratic Party National Convention, disappeared, not one by one, but hundreds at a time, from the Party web site listing the eligibles. The list of Obama delegate hopefuls in one northern California congressional district went from a robust 100 to an anemic 23, while in southern California, the list in Congressman Waxman’s district almost slipped out of sight, plunging from a high of 91 candidates to 17. Gone were strong women with independent political bases.

Congressman Schiff, How will it Feel to be Occupied?
Grassroots Democrats to Occupy Schiff's Office
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Broken Hearts Week
You can hear the grumbling in our chat groups. Eating their own.
Not fair. Renegades. Winograd, there she goes again. First Harman, now Schiff?
Yes, next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 11 - 6 PM, I will join other anti-war activists, some of them leaders of local LA Democratic Clubs, to conduct non-violent civil disobedience. As part of a nationwide Occupation Project, we will occupy Congressman Adam Schiff's office at 87 North Raymond in Old Town, Pasadena (Los Angeles area).
Arianna, I Will Say It; Israel Does Not Speak or Kill For Me
Tue Aug 08, 2006 at 09:04:08 PM PDT
Arianna, I see what you're doing on Larry King Live. You're playing to the crowd. You're debating Dennis Prager on the Middle East and avoiding all talk of civilian casualties. In fact, the only one who mentions the dead civilians is Prager who dismisses them as a necessary by-product of a just war. Dresden. Hiroshima. Beirut.
This Jew Wants a Cease Fire, Not a Pause
Sun Jul 30, 2006 at 09:16:11 PM PDT
After bombing and killing at least 56 Lebanese civilians, most of them women and children, Israel has agreed to suspend air strikes for 48 hours. Call it a pause, a breath between bombs, a period in which the Israeli military investigates what the hell happened.
I can tell them what happened. Innocent people were killed -- and will continue to be victimized if an immediate unconditional cease fire is not declared.
Yes, this Jew wants a cease fire.

Boxer, say it ain't so - Are you really stumping for Lieberman? ?
Wed Jul 05, 2006 at 06:23:35 PM PDT
Dear Senator Boxer:
Hi, it's me, Marcy Winograd, President of Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles and former Congressional candidate running to unseat Rep. Jane Harman.
Thank you for voting against the most recent 66-billion dollar Iraq supplemental. I know it's not easy to cast a dissenting vote and that it takes great courage to speak the truth when all around you friends and foes are wrapping themselves in the flag and pledging allegiance to war profiteers.

Winograd Submits Harman Questions for On-Line Debate
Fri Jun 02, 2006 at 12:02:17 PM PDT
I am accepting a blogger's proposal to participate in what may be the first on-line congressional candidate debate. I look forward to increasing the rigor of this dialogue and holding my opponent accountable for her support of the Iraq war, the Patriot Act, and massive illegal wiretaps. As you know I face incumbent Jane Harman in the California Democratic Party Primary election next Tuesday, June 6th.
Standing For Peace
Thu Jun 01, 2006 at 11:10:49 AM PDT
Dear Rep Harman,
I am glad to hear that you are now critical of the NSA spying program and cautious about any military action against Iran. I can only surmise that my challenge to you in this race has made you think more deeply about rubber-stamping Bush's war agenda and illegal wiretaps.
My message - Out of Iraq and Protect our Constitutional Rights -- is resonating across California's 36th district and beyond -- and clearly it makes sense to you, as well. Good.
Perhaps you could kindly clarify why you said only a week ago that a pre-emptive strike on Iran might be warranted if the intelligence were "pristine." Given the conflicting intelligence reports in the build-up to the Iraq war, the "pristine" reference seems particularly puzzling. Just recently when I met with the Iranian American Democrat Club, its members overwhelming condemned a pre-emptive attack, pointing out that it would result in the deaths of tens of thousands of people and breed hatred of the US across the Middle East.
I have more questions below the jump.
Memorial Day Dream
Mon May 29, 2006 at 07:27:01 AM PDT
Who expected to run for Congress? Not me. I make "Out of Iraq" signs. Call radio stations.
Mock arrest CA's Secretary of State for Diebolding our elections.
Leaflet high school students about the human cost of war.
Yet, here I am, almost three months after the big day, the day I saw Jane Harman surrender our Constitution on Meet the Press, telling the world how "deplorable" it was Bush's warrantless wiretaps were leaked -- the day I decided to challenge Harman for the 36th congressional seat because if she were silent about warrantless wiretaps surely she would also comply with a US attack on Iran. I email friends. Someone I know must be thinking of running against Harman. What do you think?

Gathering Threats to Our Constitution
Sat May 20, 2006 at 08:46:48 AM PDT
Dear Kossacks
I am talking about "incrementalism." Capitalism, socialism, fundamentalism, feminism. Meet the new ism. Incrementalism. Funny how things creep up on us.
Our Constitution is Precious
Tue May 16, 2006 at 10:51:43 PM PDT
Dear Kossacks,
Some of my favorite lessons in history class involved the Bill of Rights - debates over the 8th amendment on cruel and unusual punishment, mock trials involving challenges to free speech, and practice writing search warrants. To me, the freedoms and rights outlined in the Bill of Rights are fundamental to our democracy. Consequently, protecting our Constitutional rights is of great importance to me.
Where was Silent Jane While Bush Was Spying?
Mon May 15, 2006 at 03:57:32 PM PDT
Dear Kossacks,
I'm glad to see my opponent Jane Harman is now concerned about the Bush administration's massive illegal spying program and is working with Congressman Conyers to curb the limits of executive power. The travesty, however, is that Harman failed to do her job as the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee and went along with warrantless wiretaps and phone database tracking for over a year, without raising any questions or voicing opposition to King Bush's law-breaking.
The Sprint to the June 6 Finish
Fri May 12, 2006 at 07:47:12 AM PDT
Greetings, Kossacks,
I'm Marcy Winograd. With less than a month left before the June 6th election, I'm sporting my tennies and sprinting to the finish line in a race against Jane "Wiretapper" Harman.
Some of you may know me as the English teacher and comma cop, the LA County Dem of the Year, the anti-war mom, or the lady most-likely to put up her dukes with Diebold. Others may know me as a red, white, and blue sign popping up on voters' lawns from San Pedro to West LA.
